Stop Bad Breath in it’s Tracks
Today and Everyday!

Good oral hygiene is one of the most important factors indicating whether or not you can stop bad breath. By brushing your teeth and your tongue every day, you are ridding your mouth of food particles that, if not removed, can collect odorous bacteria, a common cause of bad breath. It can even show up in a child or toddler if they are not brushing well. In fact, most cases are due to something inside the mouth. Are you practicing good oral hygiene?

Good Oral Hygiene Requires:
  • Brushing twice a day
  • Brushing for at least two minutes
  • Brushing your tongue gently in a side to side motion to remove bacteria
  • Using short, gentle circular strokes
  • Moving bristle tips in a circular motion while the brush head moves back and forth
  • Paying close attention to the gumline, back teeth and areas around fillings, crowns and restorations
  • Replacing your brush every two to three months, or sooner if bristles are bent or frayed or if you have a respiratory or viral illness
  • Using a pattern that works for you while brushing the inside and outside of every tooth
  • Brushing the inner surfaces of upper teeth and then lower teeth holding the brush vertically and moving it away from the gumline.

The bottom line is that you can help stop bad breath. Most cases of bad breath are caused by plaque, that sticky layer of microorganisms, food particles and other organic matter that forms on your teeth and doesn't get completely removed Read more about how to help stop bad breath, take care of your teeth and get tips for fresh breath in the Colgate Oral Care Center.
